Define the equipment and failure mode
Identify the crane or davit manufacturer, model, rated load if already documented, and the observed problem such as slow movement, leakage, control fault, limit-switch issue, abnormal noise, or a failed component. Do not operate beyond the vessel’s approved procedures to demonstrate the fault.
Separate repair from regulated verification
Hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and control-system repairs may be service work. Structural inspection, proof-load testing, lifting-appliance certification, or class-required documentation can require specific competent persons, test equipment, witnesses, or approved organizations. The delivery route is confirmed before acceptance.
Plan access and safe isolation
State the berth, work area, tender or load condition, access constraints, and responsible onboard contact. The vessel remains responsible for permits, lockout or isolation, lifting plans, and safe access under its procedures unless expressly included in the written scope.
