EPIRB and SART service: identify the task first

Programming, battery replacement, routine checks, shore-based maintenance, and replacement supply are not interchangeable. State the actual task and the document you need.

Collect accessible label details

Read the manufacturer, model, serial, and visible service or battery dates without opening or activating the equipment. Note whether the inquiry concerns the beacon itself, its bracket, a release unit, or a replacement item.

Keep identity information controlled

Do not post beacon identity programming, personal emergency contacts, or registration documents in an open message. Ask for an approved channel and retain the operator’s responsibility for verifying the applicable registration and identity details.

Do not test by activation

Do not activate a distress device for a service inquiry or attempt a battery replacement yourself. Use the applicable manufacturer instructions and authorized service route. Request the scope, required approvals, and issuer for any maintenance document in writing.

Information to prepare

  • Requested task and visible date labels
  • Vessel flag and intended document
  • Port and delivery deadline
This page is a planning aid. It does not authorize equipment changes, replace manufacturer instructions, determine vessel readiness, or establish a company approval. Use the vessel’s procedures and an appropriately qualified and approved delivery route.
