Describe the equipment and the problem
List the affected unit, model, alarm, and when the issue was first observed. For a service inquiry, describe the operational function affected without publishing sensitive communications or configuration details.
Identify the authority path
For a survey or regulated deliverable, provide flag, class, previous certificate reference, and the intended task. Request written identification of the performing entity, qualified technician, any required reviewer, and document issuer. The applicable company approval and issuer arrangements are confirmed for each regulated scope.
Do not improvise a test transmission
Follow the vessel’s procedures and the manufacturer’s authorized instructions. Do not transmit a distress alert, alter identity programming, or disable safety equipment to demonstrate a fault. Ask for an appropriately supervised service plan.
IMO describes GMDSS as an integrated system using satellite and terrestrial radiocommunications for distress, safety, and general communications. This site does not determine a vessel’s individual carriage or survey requirements.
