Getting started

A fault before departure: what to send first

Use the critical-priority inquiry route for a time-sensitive service issue. This website is not an emergency communications channel and cannot decide whether a vessel is safe to sail.

Keep safety decisions onboard

For immediate danger, follow the vessel’s emergency procedures and the instructions of the responsible authorities. Inform the master or responsible officer of an impaired navigation or distress system. Do not wait for a website reply before taking required safety action.

State the operational impact

Describe which function is affected and whether other equipment has also reported a fault. Report only redundancy or temporary arrangements already confirmed by the responsible onboard team; do not assume that another display is an independent backup.

Ask for a clear acceptance point

Request confirmation of receipt, technical review, availability, access, and the next update time. A preferred attendance window does not reserve an engineer. Preserve any existing supplier or authority escalation while the new inquiry is being considered.

Information to prepare

  • Exact departure deadline and its status
  • Affected functions and onboard contact
  • Actions already authorized or undertaken
  • Access constraints and approval contact
This page is a planning aid. It does not authorize equipment changes, replace manufacturer instructions, determine vessel readiness, or establish a company approval. Use the vessel’s procedures and an appropriately qualified and approved delivery route.
